Make-It-Yourself projects
ETI 804 (Electronics Today International, November 1976)

This classic project based around General Instrument's AY-3-8500 game chip was published quite early considering that the chip came out in early 1976 and that the first two customers (Coleco and Magnavox) blocked the production for some time. Projects based on TTL or CMOS chips were still in the mood back then, and this article was probably one of the firsts to show how much the chip simplified the overall circuitry and droped the global cost. As can be seen in the pictures, much less components are required to build the whole game. The article is quite detailed and explains how to interface the chip. The project was called ETI 804 and was available in kit form.
